Felt roofing

Fundamentally, roofing felt is hefty paper or cardboard which has been saturated with asphalt and impregnated with tar and bituminous coal. Most roofing felt is also coated with sand or other abrasive materials to ensure that it doesn’t stick to itself while rolled up. The sand also helps to keep the asphalt coating on the paper, protecting the roofing felt from inclement weather.

Torch-on membranes have an underside which has been pretreated with a covering of thermofusible bitumen. This covering is then heated with a propane gas torch and the membrane is applied to the surface of the roof while the bitumen is still hot.

We offer a range of felt roofing products whether it’s traditional, oxidised bitumen, SBS or APP modified for new builds or refurbishment, there’s a solution to meet every budget.

Tiling

Tiled roofs can be found on buildings of all ages as tiles were commonly used to replace slate during tenement renovations from the 60s onwards. Older concrete tiled roofs erected in the 1980s are likely to be coming to the end of their lives and may well need re-tiling.

Concrete tiled roofs have a lifespan of 30-40 years, longer if they are well maintained with good workmanship, shorter in highly exposed conditions.

Tiled roofing has many advantages, though no roofing option is completely flawless. It can be vulnerable to faults including broken and fallen tiles. Luckily Moore Roofing also offer repairs and maintenance services so can come to the rescue if such issues arise!

Slate Roofing

Slate is particularly suitable as a roofing material, as it has an extremely low water absorption index of less than 0.4%. Its low tendency to absorb water also makes it very resistant to frost damage and breakage due to freezing.

Slate roof tiles are usually fixed using either nail, or hook fixing methods as is common with Spanish slate. In the UK, nailing is typically done with copper double nails onto timber battens, if fitted properly this will provide a long-lasting weather tight roof with a very long life span.

Slate roofs are fireproof. Slate itself is fireproof. A slate roof is one of the most fire resistant roofs that exist. However, the wood deck under the slate is not fireproof. Often, fires will jump from house to house as sparks hit adjacent roofs, igniting the surface if it is an amiable material. Many of the raging fires that engulf hundreds of houses every year would not occur if the houses were covered in slate.

Rubber Roofing

EPDM rubber roofing is designed to create long-lasting, waterproof flat roofs. Best used on small surface areas, EPDM rubber is ideal for projects such as home extensions, porches, sheds, balconies and garages.

Rubber provides a cheaper alternative as it does not require the entire roof to be replaced. Liquid rubber is an instant setting, fully-bonded membrane that also leaves a seamless edge-to-edge covering on your roof. It is flexible so fits the shape and any shifts in your roof. With no need to strip your old roof material, liquid rubber roofing provides a protective over-coat for most materials including felt, concrete, metal and insulation boards. This avoids disruption to the building below during installation.

Lead work

Lead is one of the oldest and most durable building materials and continues to perform in buildings that are over 500 years old.

British Standard Rolled Lead Sheet provides a lasting protection for all types of roofs. It is the professional’s choice for flashings, valley gutters, porches and dormers on residential property and can be the focal point for both traditional and contemporary buildings. The Rolled Lead Sheet that we use is all manufactured to BS EN12588, which ensures thickness consistency.

Studies by European research and development institutes show that synthetic materials developed as a potential alternative to lead have significant impacts on global warming during manufacture and as we all know, climate change is one of the biggest threats to the world’s environment. Detailed scientific papers are fully available to substantiate these claims.

Fascias & Soffits

Fascias and soffits are essential to any effective roofing system, which is why their correct installation is paramount both to the effectiveness and efficiency of your roof, but also its safety. The right roofing repairs and improvements can last years, seriously diminishing the need for a completely new roof being built at your property for a long period of time.

Good quality fascia boards ensure that your home is protected and stays looking good for many years to come.

Soffits give your roofline an attractive finish and seal in the open void that exists in the overhang of your roof. Your soffits will play as important a role as any other aspect of your roof in allowing your roof to perform the job it is required to do. If your soffits are in need of repair or replacement, then contact us here at Moore Roofing.

Guttering

Gutters discharge into buildings predominantly due to joint failure but also due to substrate failure caused by severe corrosion, in today’s weather conditions, however; gutters can also be overwhelmed and surcharge during heavy storms. This is becoming a much more common occurrence.

What is required is a system that has been designed and engineered to correctly address these problems, that will maximise the available space within the existing gutter cavity, will remain rigid and stable in service, will offer an exceptional life span and be guaranteed not to leak.

We also offer gutter cleaning services using a specialist machine with up to 15m reach which allows us to carry out the work from the ground level, eliminating the need for working at height and also cutting out extra costs such as scaffolding etc.
